If you’re a client of mine, you’ve probably heard me express my love of volleyball at some point. Maybe you’ve heard it even if you aren’t one of my regulars, because I love talking about it!
My passion for the game stems from 5th grade on, and has grown into an obsession. Not only did I play volleyball all through grade school and high school, but I am STILL playing in any sort of leagues I can find. Indoor, sand, teams of 6s, 4s, even beach 2s. You name it, I’ve played it; and coached it. I have spent the last 7 years coaching middle school volleyball for Summerfield Schools, and was recently promoted to the head varsity position.
So why am I telling you all this? What’s my point? My background as an athlete means I GET IT. I’ve had every ache and pain in the book. My shoulder snaps, crackles, and pops. My hips are stuck in my defensive position. So what’s my secret then? How do I keep going? You guessed it: massage therapy!

My history with sports has melted its way into my career as a therapist. I, and Back to Basics, have had the honor of working with so many different teams, athletes, and events.
To name a few:
*University of Toledo men’s and women’s basketball teams
*University of Toledo women’s tennis team
*Glass city marathon runners - pre and post event
*Local mixed martial artists
*High School student athletes

Sports massage has numerous benefits, and can be used before an event, during training, after an activity, or to help recover after an injury.
Some noted benefits include:
-Increased flexibility and joint range of motion.
-Decreased muscle tension and nerve activity
-Decreased muscle spasms and cramping
-Increased blood flow
-Removal of lactic acid in sore muscles

Everyone responds differently to physical activity, so whatever your therapy goals are, the therapists at Back to Basics have you covered! Maybe you are a hiker or biker. Maybe you love to swim, walk, run, or play ball like me. Anytime your body may start to feel run down, sore, tight or just sluggish, our phones are waiting for your call! Make sure to schedule an appointment for therapy, so you can continue on being active long into your future!

You made a good point when you discussed that massage therapy can reduce muscle cramping and spasms. My friend often complains about muscle cramps. I should advise him to take massage therapy for proper treatment.

It really helped when you said that there are many benefits a sports massage therapy has which can be done during, before, and after the activities you have. My husband and I are not athletes, but we love cycling for a couple of months now. And we might need this kind of service to help us with some body pains we have because of our long rides.

Having increased flexibility and joint range of motion sounds nice. I have been super stiff since my car accident. Maybe I should schedule a massage.

Thanks for helping me understand that every person would have a different response when it comes to physical activities, but therapies can help you with whatever goal you might have. In that case, it would be a good idea for my husband and I to try a massage therapy this weekend. We both have body pain because of trying out cycling for long distances in the past two weeks.

I've been having a hard time working out because of how sore my body gets. It's good to know that massage therapy can be so beneficial for recovering from muscle pain. Getting a chance to relax would be really nice, too.

Massage therapy can be very beneficial for athletes in many ways, including:

Improved muscle flexibility: Massage therapy can help to improve muscle flexibility and range of motion, reducing the risk of injury and improving athletic performance.

Reduced muscle soreness: Massage therapy can help to reduce muscle soreness and fatigue after intense physical activity.

Improved circulation: Massage therapy can help to improve blood and lymphatic circulation, delivering oxygen and nutrients to muscles and removing waste products.

Reduced muscle tension: Massage therapy can help to release muscle tension and knots, reducing pain and discomfort.

Increased relaxation: Massage therapy can help athletes to relax and reduce stress levels, promoting mental and emotional well-being.

Faster recovery: Massage therapy can help to speed up the recovery process after injury or intense physical activity, reducing downtime and allowing athletes to return to training sooner.

Improved focus and mental clarity: Massage therapy can help athletes to improve their focus and mental clarity, reducing distractions and improving overall performance.

Overall, massage therapy can be a valuable tool for athletes, helping to improve muscle flexibility, reduce muscle soreness, improve circulation, reduce muscle tension, increase relaxation, speed up recovery, and improve focus and mental clarity.

It's wonderful to hear about Dawn's passion for volleyball and how it has influenced her career as a massage therapist. As an athlete herself, she understands firsthand the aches and pains that come with the game. Massage therapy has been her secret to staying in the game, alleviating her shoulder issues and improving her hip mobility. It's great to have a therapist who can relate to the needs of athletes and provide effective treatment.

It's good to learn that sports massage helps you recover after an injury. My cousin joined a baseball team last month, and during his last game, he got injured. I think he'd benefit from reading your post about sports massage therapy since it'd help increase his joint range of motion, so I'll email this to him right now.
